Intergenerational Yoga

The Intergenerational Yoga Project with Honeycroft Nursery was one of the first recipients of the Brighton Yoga Foundation's 2018 grant funding. From Spring through till Summer 2018, the project provided classes to 3-5 year olds who attend Honeycroft Nursery, and residents of a local elderly care home.

Led by yoga instructor Jennifer Nicholas, each group attended two yoga sessions within their respective groups, and after, came together in four joint sessions to practice and share what they had learned. In their 'coming together', both groups experienced a new playful, social interaction, as well as feeling the benefits from yoga on their emotional wellbeing.

In all, around 20 older people and children participated in the classes and the feedback was very positive:

"Great job, Thanks for coming! We would love to do more with the children at Honeycroft, especially around Christmas. The residents are still talking about it!" Middleton Grove Nursing Home.

"This was a great way for us to try something new with the children and our older partners. The children involved all talk about the project and the adventures they shared together with their older friends."

About Honeycroft Nursery:

Honeycroft has put families at the centre of all that they do for over 35 years.

Honeycroft is a registered charity that was established in the late 1970s. The founder, Marion Silsby, identified a need for low cost learning through play for children in Brighton & Hove. Over a period of 35 years Marion built Honeycroft’s excellent reputation; making it known in the community for integrating children with special needs, creating projects inspired by parent’s stories and responding to families’ needs. In 2016 Marion retired and her youngest daughter, Natasha, stepped up to continue her work. Today, Honeycroft’s activities have grown to offer a range of services based at St. Barnabas Church Hall on Sackville Road in Hove. These include: nursery, two-year-old unit, crèche, after school and holiday club for children for Primary School aged children, community coffee shop and children’s shop, space and partnerships to run learning and leisure opportunities. In addition to the range of services on offer, Honeycroft continues to uphold the original ethos of learning through play and access for all.
